Petal Path: Word Trails is designed to respect your privacy. There are no accounts, the game is fully playable offline, and we collect as little as possible. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app touches and why. It covers the game on iPhone and iPad (from the App Store) and on Android (from Google Play); where the two differ, we say so.
No accounts, and your saves stay with you
Petal Path has no sign-up, login, or registration of any kind. You can play the entire game offline. Your progress — levels, streaks, coins, companions, and settings — is stored locally on your device. On iPhone and iPad, if you use Apple's device backups, that save data may be included in your own iCloud backup, which is controlled entirely by your Apple account and device settings. On Android, the save stays on your device and is not included in Google's cloud backup, so uninstalling the game removes it. We never receive or store your saves on our servers.
Advertising
Petal Path shows ads through Google AdMob, including optional rewarded ads and occasional interstitial ads. Before any ads load, you'll see Google's consent form (provided through Google's User Messaging Platform), which presents the privacy choices required in your region, including GDPR consent in Europe and the applicable choices under US state privacy laws.
On iOS, Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt also controls whether ads can be personalized. If you decline tracking — or decline consent in the form — you'll still see ads, but they will be non-personalized. You can remove ads entirely with a one-time in-app purchase.
On Android, Google's ad service may use your device's advertising ID, along with general information such as your approximate location (derived from your IP address), to choose and measure ads. Android has no separate tracking prompt: the consent form is where you make that choice wherever the law requires one, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device settings under Privacy, then Ads. Deleting it means the ads you see are no longer based on that ID.
Analytics
We collect anonymous gameplay statistics through PostHog to understand how the game is played so we can fix problems and improve it. This is tied to a random install identifier generated on your device — it contains no names, email addresses, phone numbers, or contacts, and is not used to identify you. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings under Stats.
Measuring our own ads
We promote Petal Path on the App Store through Apple Ads. To learn whether those ads bring in new players, the app asks Apple's AdServices framework once, shortly after install, whether this download came from one of our own campaigns. Apple answers only with attribution details: whether the install was attributed and, if so, the campaign, ad group, keyword, and conversion type identifiers. No name, Apple ID, or device advertising identifier is involved, and the check does not rely on the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. This check exists only in the iOS version of the game; the Android version does not measure where its installs come from.
We send that answer to PostHog together with the same random install identifier used for gameplay statistics, and use it solely to measure how our own campaigns perform. It is kept for as long as our PostHog project keeps analytics data and is covered by the same Stats toggle in Settings: turning analytics off also withdraws this measurement. Deleting the app discards the install identifier, so the record can no longer be connected to you. You can also email us to ask that we delete it.
Crash reporting
When the app crashes or hits an error, we send a crash report through Sentry so we can find and fix the problem. These reports include technical details such as your device model, operating system version, and an anonymous stack trace. They do not include personal identifiers.
Purchases
Any purchases — such as removing ads or buying coins — are processed entirely by the store you downloaded the game from: Apple through the App Store, or Google through Google Play. The store handles your payment; we never see or store your payment card, billing address, or other payment details. Our anonymous gameplay statistics do record that a purchase happened and which item it was, tied only to the random install identifier described above.
Reminders
If you turn on the evening reminder, the game schedules a notification on your own device. Reminders are created and delivered locally: nothing about them is sent to us, and no push notification service is involved. You can switch them off in Settings in the game, or in your device's notification settings.
Children
Petal Path is a general-audience game and is not directed at children. On the App Store it is rated 4+. There are no accounts, no chat, and no user-generated content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
Because there are no accounts, there is nothing to sign in to or close. Uninstalling the game removes the save from your device and discards the random install identifier, so any statistics already collected can no longer be connected to you. If you would like us to delete the anonymous statistics tied to your install, email us at hello [at] puglabs.io and we will.
How your data is shared
We do not sell your personal data. The only third parties involved are the service providers described above — Google (AdMob and its consent platform), PostHog, and Sentry — who process data on our behalf to run ads, provide anonymous analytics and ad measurement, and report crashes. Apple or Google processes purchases, depending on your device, and Apple answers the Apple Ads attribution check as described above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the game or in applicable law. When we make material changes, we'll post the updated version here.
Relationship to the Pug Labs privacy policy
This policy is the authoritative description of what Petal Path collects. The Pug Labs privacy policy lists all of our apps and covers our website and services generally; this policy is deliberately narrower and takes precedence for Petal Path. Where the general policy describes practices for products with accounts (such as collecting names or email addresses), those practices do not apply to Petal Path — this game has no accounts and collects no such information.
